The VAVS NAC was established by VA Circular No. 117, May 17, 1947, and became a
Federally chartered advisory committee on February 5, 1975. The Committee
advises the Secretary of Veterans Affairs through the Under Secretary for Health on
matters pertaining to the participation of volunteers in VA medical facilities, assists
in recruitment and orientation of volunteers, and keeps the officers and members of
participating organizations informed of volunteer needs and accomplishments.
This mission critical event, approved by the Under Secretary for Health on November 22,
2023, brings together over 50 Veteran Service Organizations, strategic engagement
members, and other community partners, along with senior leaders across VHA program
offices and VA administrations.
The strategic outcomes of this meeting include identifying how to maximize the utilization
of community resources to:
- Facilitate additional Whole Health programs and activities within local medical facilities
and community venues.
-Augment activities and support to Veterans in rural areas.
- Ensure community partners are knowledgeable about HRO and VHA strategic
priorities.
- Accelerate Veteran enrollment through community-based activities and events.
- Provide an introduction to VA through volunteerism to students, military spouses, and
other community members to broaden understanding of VA’s mission and services.
